St. Louis Woman Uses Cancer To Inspire Art

Malignant cancer cells might be more common in a medical textbook than on an art gallery wall. But Margaret Adams is out to change that.

"It was trying to make visible that feeling of astonishment that gave rise to this work." said artist Margaret Adams.

She began researching the depth of the disease, after family members fought battles with pancreatic cancer. Adams admits to seeing a CAT scan up close and being intrigued with the imagery.

"A white fuzzy image in a dark space. It was the cancer. It was simply the cells were multiplying and growing out and surrounding a vessel and ducts in the abdomen." said Margaret Adams.
